Contest: Win a Birthday Gift Bag

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

As we’ve done in the past, we’re giving away two of the gift bags we set aside from Brad’s birthday party last week. The specially-designed black tote bags from Love Brigade feature some of Brad’s photographs of celebrities and hosts of the party, and are stuffed with goodies and discounts from Zink Magazine, Ben Sherman, 24 Prince, CDs and vinyl from Stolen Transmission Records including The Horrors and Permanent Me, certificates for free music downloads, items from SESAC, and a super expensive diamond-encrusted JunkMag pin, blessed by the Pope and Victoria Beckham.*

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment here with the name of your favorite junk food. Winners will be chosen by random number generator at 4:00pm EST on Thursday, June 26. The comment numbers that correspond to the two random numbers drawn will be the winners. Just make sure you leave your e-mail address with your comment (only visible to us, and won’t be made public).

*Pin may actually be plastic, unholy, and unfamous.

ETA: Contest is closed!

We Can Has Winners!

We got a lot of great responses to the photo imitation contest we posted earlier this week, for which we asked you to send in re-creations (photos, art, anything) of images found here on JunkMag and at Editor Brad Walsh’s website. Brad, Associate Editor Kathy Cacace, and Christian Siriano judged the submissions and chose two winners to receive prizes.

The top two will each receive a stuffed gift bag we saved from the party, including: an Anna Nicole tote bag from Kill Shop Kill; a Lloyd Hoffman “Coke” t-shirt from MerchDirect; issues of Playgirl Magazine; the L Magazine; FlipFuck flipbook and sex book from Box Magazine; assorted CDs, stickers, and pins from Stolen Transmission, the Musebox, and In De Goot; JunkMag pins; a discount coupon for any purchase from Indiepix; a free week pass to the New York Health and Racquet Club; a glossy 8×10 print of one of Brad’s photographs; and a personalized, signed look card from Christian Siriano featuring images of his Project Runway final collection.

First place goes to…

Hannah Rohrs (model) and Liz Alloca (photographer). These girls sent in two submissions (the other one appears later, after the jump), both imitations of photos from the “Time of the Season” zombie shoot I did for Queerty last fall. They clearly spent a lot of time on this and the product is even better than what they modeled it on. Love these girls! They are both getting gift bags since they both sent things in and worked together.

Second is Josh, who says of the middle image “I decided to send this one along while I was playing in my sketchbook.” These both are modeled on some of my photos of Sophia Lamar from various nights at Ruff Club. Josh is a really great artist and has painted me before, and I was excited that he sent something in for this! He’s also getting a gift bag.

Contest for Free Stuff!

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and we love to be flattered. So to go along with the opening of JunkMag Editor Brad Walsh’s portrait show (held this past weekend), we’re holding a contest to see how well you can imitate any of the images he’s taken for this site over the years. Send us or link us to your self-made photo, video, drawing, anything you like; as long as it’s an imitation of a photo you’ve seen on this site (in the photos or stripsters sections) or in Brad’s studio portfolio. It can be funny, serious, stupid, ugly, low quality, animated… anything. It’s up to you.

Two lucky winners will each receive a stuffed gift bag we saved from the party, including: an Anna Nicole tote bag from Kill Shop Kill (debut of a new design); a Lloyd Hoffman “Coke” t-shirt from MerchDirect (also the debut of a new design); issues of Playgirl Magazine; the L Magazine; FlipFuck flipbook and sex book from Box Magazine; assorted CDs, stickers, and pins from Stolen Transmission, the Musebox, and In De Goot; JunkMag pins; a discount coupon for any purchase from Indiepix; a free week pass to the New York Health and Racquet Club; a glossy 8×10 print of one of Brad’s photographs; and a personalized, signed look card from Christian Siriano featuring images of his Project Runway final collection.

To enter, send your submission to editorialjunk@gmail.com on or before 4:00pm on Friday, March 14. Brad, Christian, and Kathy will judge. Winners will be announced later that day.

Take Mark Ronson Home With You

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Mark Ronson has until recently been an unsung hero behind many known pop radio hits, coming into the spotlight lately as the production force behind Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black and with his own sophomore album Version. Guests like Winehouse, Robbie Williams, Lily Allen and more make the odd collection (which features a cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic”) a virtual sonic yearbook of artists who have helped redefine pop music since 2006.

Now the video for “Oh My God” takes the genius to the next level with a truly sexy clip featuring an animated Lily Allen working a lounge crowd with allure not seen since Jessica Rabbit.

For a chance to win one of two copies of his Version CD, e-mail me the celebrity couple whose 2006 wedding Mark DJed. (more…)
